A working scale model of a Proton exchange membrane (PEM) Water Fuel Cell that uses the Hydrogen from Water to produce Electricity which in return is used to power an electric car motor. The Electrolysis procedure uses Solar power to disassociate the Hydrogen and Oxygen from water, the Hydrogen is then pumped into the Proton Exchange Membrane which produces electricity and powers Electric Car, Or any Electrical Device for that Matter. Remember This technology could be coupled with stanley meyers water fuel cell technology and others!

At its site in Ulm, the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research (ZSW) is investigating options for alternative power generation. The focal topics of the not-for-profit foundation are photovoltaic systems, batteries and fuel cells. To date, fuel cells have been produced manually. The drive towards greater cost-effectiveness and improved quality provided the impetus to search for suitable automation options. In order to be able to modify individual processing stages, and therefore to find the most practical and effective automation solution, ZSW placed great importance on the flexibility of the system.

This is a test drive of a Nissan fuel cell electric vehicle along Exhibition Road towards Imperial College London on 18th July 2008. The acceleration is amazingly fast! It is really quiet because a fuel cell has no moving parts, unlike petrol or diesel internal combustion engines! The vehicle is powered by a low temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) Fuel Cell with a Lithium-ion Battery for storing energy during regenerative braking.

Watch VRB ESS - Vanadium Redox Battery Video VRB ESS - Vanadium Redox Battery
Jul 05, 2010
The VRB Energy Storage System (VRB-ESS) is an electrical energy storage system based on the patented vanadium-based redox regenerative fuel cell that converts chemical energy into electrical energy. Energy is stored chemically in different ionic forms of vanadium in a dilute sulphuric acid electrolyte. The electrolyte is pumped from separate plastic storage tanks into flow cells across a proton exchange membrane (PEM) where one form of electrolyte is electrochemically oxidized and the other is electrochemically reduced. This creates a current that is collected by electrodes and made available to an external circuit. The reaction is reversible allowing the battery to be charged, discharged and recharged. it consists of two electrolyte tanks, containing active vanadium species in different oxidation states (positive: V(IV)/V(V) redox couple, negative: V(II)/(III) redox couple). These energy-bearing liquids are circulated through the cell stack by pumps. The stack consists of many cells, each of which contains two half-cells that are separated by a membrane. In the half-cells the electrochemical reactions take place on inert carbon felt polymer composite electrodes from which current may be used to charge or discharge the battery. The VRB-ESS employs vanadium ions in both half-cell electrolytes. Therefore, cross-contamination of ions through the membrane separator has no permanent effect on the battery capacity, as is the case in redox flow batteries employing different ...
